Celebrating Sanctity of Life Month as the Battle for Human Life Continues
Life is precious.
People are indispensable. Each life is a work of art by the Master Designer who knows each page of our story – from beginning to end, before even one page is written. Human life is a miracle, so intricate that science is still uncovering mysteries revealed in DNA, the immune system, and the human eye.
Your life as a mom, an elderly grandmother’s beauty and wise influence, and the little one growing in the womb of a young woman or teen. From the giggle of an infant to the wistful sigh of a man who has seen more than 100 years, there are stories to be written and others to be told. These lives, and every life, are what Sanctity of Life Month is all about.
Life vs. Death and Left vs. Right
One wouldn’t think life would be a left-or-right issue, but the battle lines are still drawn, politically distinct, even three years after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Though arguably a bad decision from 1973 that needed to fall, the fight for life versus death for our most vulnerable Americans, preborn babies, rages on.
Then there’s the push for increasing the availability of euthanasia. Canada led the way, becoming the legal killing capital of the world with its legal “MAID” (Medical Assistance in Dying). After 10 years of the law, they killed 16,499 people in 2024 alone, bringing the grisly total for Canadian deaths by legal suicide to over 76,000. It is a sadly growing trend in the US, too, with 12 (almost all blue) states having legalized this form of killing.
Another life and death issue championed by the political left is the sex-rejecting surgeries and hormonal intervention for kids who choose to identify opposite of their God-given biological gender. This, too, is an issue of life. Think about it, the sterilization of thousands of children and teens will prevent the future births of the children they might have had, if misguided adults hadn’t facilitated medical interventions with lifelong consequences. It is the death of that next generation. Heartbreaking.
At the end of the day, the issues seem be squarely divided by political ideology, with Democrats mostly being pro-abortion, many of them holding pro-euthanasia views, and championing LGBTQ’s “gender-affirming” care for the young. Meanwhile, Republicans hold predominantly pro-life, anti-euthanasia views. And as far as the transgender mutilation of kids, right-leaning moms and dads are rightfully outraged.
Abortion
In an article for Daily Citizen, Paul Batura illustrated the 60 million children who have been lost to abortion with a shocking statement: “more children have been aborted than currently live in 27 states combined.” After listing the states, he continued, “Eliminate every person in all those states who are alive today and you’ll get close to the number of children killed by abortion since Roe was decided by seven Supreme Court justices in 1973.”1
Each person represented in that astounding number represents a sad story, a lost life, and tragic pain for a mom.
It would be nice if we could tie a bow on the issue with Roe v. Wade’s defeat three years ago, but it’s not that simple. There are still more than 30 states where abortion is legal, while it is banned in just over a dozen. It’s been estimated that at least 125,000 lives have been saved since the Supreme Court decision; however, there are also some concerning trends.
Though previously most abortions were performed in clinics, the abortion industry has come up with workarounds to get past abortion bans. Even as a string of Planned Parenthood clinics (at least 50) have thankfully closed their doors for good, more dangerous, chemical abortions, provided through telehealth, have taken place than ever before. Women should know that these at-home abortions pose significant dangers, with one study revealing that more than 10% of women who attempt a chemical abortion experience significant, and even life-threatening complications.2 That’s one in every ten.
Legal action and legislation over the issue of preborn life continue to fuel online debate and court dockets, with victories and losses on both sides. Colorado recently failed in its attempt to ban the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) in that state. The simple hormonal treatment allows a mom, who changes her mind after taking the first pill in the chemical abortion regimen, the chance to save her baby. After a year-long battle, they lost and had to fork over $6.1 million in court costs and legal fees. It was a heartless attempt to strip moms of the right to protect their own babies. Extremely pro-abortion Colorado wanted to deny moms the “choice” they claim to celebrate.
In Tennessee, a granite memorial is planned to be installed on the state capitol grounds to remember the lives of unborn babies next summer. It will honor the lives of Tennesseans who were victims of abortion’s deadly mission. It will be unveiled on June 24, 2026, on the anniversary of the defeat of Roe v. Wade. Predictably, Democrats oppose the move, but for now it is set to go forward.
President Trump has won his bid, through the Big Beautiful Bill, to cut off Medicaid funds given to Planned Parenthood. While initially challenged by a federal judge in Massachusetts, an appeals court paved the way for the cuts to be enacted. So, fewer of our tax dollars will be funneled to that corrupt organization.
Sex-Rejecting Procedures for Kids
President Trump announced an end to the mutilation of children through “gender affirming care” in the opening days of his administration. His executive order states, “Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions. Â This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s history, and it must end.”
For years now, rogue teachers and school administrators have brought their twisted views of sexuality and gender, with religious fervor, to students in high school, but also middle and even elementary classrooms. Parents caught wind of what was happening beginning in 2020 when COVID-19’s remote learning gave moms and dads a window into the classroom. Since then, the LGBTQ movement took centerstage with the Biden administration with undue influence in education.
During those dark years, an increasing number of kids began gender transitions, first social, then through medical interventions. Parents were lied to in order to force compliance. They were threatened with their child’s inevitable suicide with the statement, “Do you want a dead daughter or a live son?” That cruel pressure tactic was untrue; however, too many parents fell for it. Countless thousands of kids and teens were stripped of their true identity and suffered cruelly at the hands of adults at school, and in the medical profession, who should’ve been protecting them.
Thankfully, President Trump took immediate action to protect America’s youth. In December, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., put forth a collection of regulatory actions to end sex-rejecting procedures for good. No longer will Medicaid and Medicare fund hospitals that engage in these mutilating treatments for minors.
There’s still plenty to be concerned about as diehard activist educators continue to proselytize for this ideology – but with RFK, Jr. and Trump, we seem to be turning a corner.
Euthanasia – Unnatural Death
Some view euthanasia as merciful. Some think of it as necessary. Others attempt to shine it up, calling it “a good death.” It seems to reflect the world’s declining view of the value of life.
The idea of killing someone (or helping someone kill themselves) flies in the face of the Creator who made each of us in His own image. The Bible explains in Psalm 139 that “all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Rewriting or editing that story is not for us to do.
We realize that well-intentioned people hold different views on this issue for various reasons; however, we can’t deny the value of every life.
In the Netherlands, they have a sort of back-door approach. Euthanasia is technically illegal; however, if a physician meets specific criteria, he or she cannot be prosecuted. So, is it illegal? Last year, the case of a 29-year-old woman caught the media’s attention. She suffered from chronic mental illness and was granted the right to end her life. According to an article published by The Guardian, similar cases have spiked – going from rare, just two for mental suffering in 2010, to 138 in 2023. 3
Canada has experienced explosive increases in the number of assisted suicides. It now accounts for 5% of the deaths in that nation. Sadly, the embrace of euthanasia is growing in the US, with doctors forced (or willing) to reject their oath to “do no harm,” instead killing their patients. It gets worse, though. Now, joining the 12 states that have legalized this form of killing, up to 29 states are considering legislation on this issue, prompting The Daily Mail to report, “Forget pro-life, America’s becoming pro-death!” 4
Polls reveal that a majority of Americans favor legalized euthanasia. It’s a tragic trend that we can’t get behind. All life is sacred, from conception to natural death.
President Reagan proclaimed the first Sanctity of Human Life Day in 1988. In his proclamation, he explained, “We are told that we may not interfere with abortion. We are told that we may not “impose our morality” on those who wish to allow or participate in the taking of the life of infants before birth; yet no one calls it “imposing morality” to prohibit the taking of life after people are born. We are told as well that there exists a “right” to end the lives of unborn children; yet no one can explain how such a right can exist in stark contradiction of each person’s fundamental right to life.
That right to life belongs equally to babies in the womb, babies born handicapped, and the elderly or infirm. That we have killed the unborn for 15 years does not nullify this right, nor could any number of killings ever do so. The unalienable right to life is found not only in the Declaration of Independence but also in the Constitution that every President is sworn to preserve, protect, and defend. Both the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments guarantee that no person shall be deprived of life without due process of law.”
Ronald W. Reagan, 40th US President
We pray for moms facing a terrifying decision because of an unplanned pregnancy. We pray for the 14-year-old who has believed the lie that she is not good enough, living the truth of her biological sex. We pray for individuals suffering the pain of a potentially terminal health battle. May God hold each one, precious as they are, giving them strength, courage, and a revelation of their value in His sight.
Podcast Note: It was good to speak with Dr. Terri DeNeui this week as we dug into women’s health and the often‑misunderstood world of hormones. This is an eye‑opening conversation you won’t want to miss.
